About Us
Celebrating the Charm of the Shih Tzu: The Canadian Shih Tzu Club
Our History: A Legacy of Passion and Purpose
Founded in the mid-20th century, the Canadian Shih Tzu Club was established during a period of growing interest in purebred dogs across North America. As the Shih Tzu popularity rose in Canada, a group of dedicated breed fanciers recognized the need for a National body to preserve the breed’s integrity, promote responsible breeding, and provide education and resources for Shih Tzu lovers. What started as a small group of committed individuals has grown into a respected National organization recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC).
Who We Serve: From Show Rings to Family Rooms
The CSTC serves a broad and passionate audience:
Breeders: We provide guidance on health screening, genetic testing, and maintaining the CKC breed standard.
Exhibitors: We support those showing their dogs through CKC sanctioned events and club-hosted specialties.
Pet Owners: We offer resources on grooming, nutrition, training, and overall care.
Rescue Volunteers & Adopters: Through partnerships and outreach, we help ensure that every Shih Tzu has a loving home.
The CSTC's mission is simple yet powerful: To protect, promote, and preserve the Shih Tzu breed in Canada.
We aim to:
Encourage ethical and knowledgeable breeding practices.
Provide education to owners and the public about the proper care, grooming, training, and health of Shih Tzu.
Support participation in dog shows and events that showcase the breed’s conformation and temperament.
Advocate for responsible pet ownership and animal welfare
